Week 14

As the saying goes, a week is a long time in football and there has been a fair bit going on this week.

Firstly, to last week and the magnificent effort by all concerned in regards to the Indigenous round. There was a lot of hard work in the lead-up and we almost came unstuck with last-minute cancellations, but with a bit of help, we pulled it off successfully. It is an important event for the club as we acknowledge the indigenous contribution to our game and our country, and our thanks to Merilyn Duff who was able to fill in for us at short notice.

The other important news this week was the change of Senior Coach. Marcus Buzaglo advised me on Monday morning that he was stepping down from the role, believing that a new voice was required to get the best out of the team in the remaining 6 weeks. Again, I would like to thank Marcus for his efforts since coming on board late in 2021. In many respects, it is a thankless role, especially when results are not falling your way, but Marcus embraced the whole club program and we will miss his passion for the role and the club. We wish Marcus and his family all the best for the future.

The club has now appointed former coach Damien Franken to the Senior Coaching role. Damien will be strongly supported by the existing coaching group and the senior players, but will quickly move to ensure players are focused on how to get the best out of themselves and the team for the remainder of the season, starting with this week’s game against Park Orchards.

Let’s get wins all around this week and we can celebrate at the gala Ball on Saturday night!
